Biography
George Mchedlishvili teaches BA courses on Foreign Policy Analysis and US Foreign Policy and MA courses on South Caucasus in Global Politics and Post-Soviet Politics at the European University (Tbilisi). His area of research is South Caucasus (more focused) as well as larger Post-Soviet space, challenges of democratic transition, relations with the West and with Russia, benefits of regional unity (particularly for the South Caucasus) and the reasons of lack thereof. George’s latest papers and articles include: Caught in Between: Georgia and the Armenia-Azerbaijan Conflict (in Caspain, Caucasus and Black Sea, web platform based in Sofia, Bulgaria), Why Russia Acts Against its Long-term Interests (to appear in the International Black Sea University Quarterly), Why Georgia Strives to NATO? (in Russian, in Caspain, Caucasus and Black Sea), Georgia-Abkhaz Relations within the First Democratic Republic of 1918-1921 (to appear in the collection of articles Caucasus Dialogue).
The Caucasus Dialogue is the UNDP-supported project that united scholars from Georgia and the Russia-occupied Abkhazia. The team meets and holds discussions weekly on topical and controversial historical events from mid-April to early June and will probably (depending on COVID intensity) assemble in Istanbul in September. Since 2016 George Mchedlishvili has been among the organizers of the Annual Conference of American Studies that is held in the International Black Sea University and co-chair the panel on US and International Politics at the conference. I am planning to be among the organizers of similar annual conference on South Caucasus issue at the European University, where regular participation on BOTH Azerbaijani and Armenian scholars.
