Biography

Tohir Safarov is a journalist at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. He mainly writes multimedia reports on politics, economics, and social issues in Tajikistan. His materials were regularly re-published by major print media in Tajikistan and by regional and international media in both the Tajik and Russian language. His main interests include Islamic extremism causes, conflicts, cooperation, and integration in Central Asia. He has authored hundreds of analytical articles on extremism in Tajikistan, migration, relationships between governments and cross-border communities in the region.

He worked as a media researcher at the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, where he monitored print and online media, as well as social media on coverage of issues related to national minorities, as well as potential conflict arising materials. He analyzed information on ethnical conflicts at the Tajik-Kyrgyz border and has experience and knowledge on ethnic-based cross-border conflicts and crisis mapping.
